Homeowners who decide to take on a home improvement project, either interior or exterior modifications, often find the task was worth the investment of time and money. That’s according to a new report from the National Association of Realtors. The 2019 Remodeling Impact Report examined 20 projects and gave each a “joy score” based on how pleased the homeowners were with their renovations with the highest being 10.
Kitchen and closet renovation both received a 10 followed by a full interior paint job. With exterior renovations, the installation of fiberglass front doors and new vinyl windows also received high scores of 9.7 and 9.6, respectively.
Homeowners often take on a project with resale in mind and the report found the top projects for recovering costs are new roofing, hardwood floor refinishing, and new hardwood floor installation. In all three cases, the cost of the job exceeded or met the recovery amount.
