The most expensive rental market in the country, according to ApartmentList.com is San Francisco. Blame it on the Silicon Valley tech boom. The top 10 list of cities is primarily on the coasts. Following in second place is San Jose followed by New York, Boston, Anaheim, Jersey City, Stamford, Santa Ana, Long Beach, and Los Angeles. The city with the fastest rent growth in the country in 2017 was Sacramento where rents increased 9.3 percent. Overall, rents dropped 0.4 percent in the last four months of the year but rose 3.1 percent from January through August.
